News and Announcements

Term Dates

Thursday 30th June and Friday 1st July will be inset days and therefore the school will be closed.

School will finish for the academic year on Thursday 21st July at 1.45pm.

Parent and Carer Coffee Morning

Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our coffee morning.  It was wonderful to see you in person and have the opportunity to talk  more about your children, to share strategies for how we can support  each other and to learn about further support in the local community. We  know that there were many of you who wanted to attend but sadly spaces  weren’t available. Please look out for future dates soon.

Armistice Day

Throughout the week our School Councillors have been visiting classrooms to collect donations for the Royal British Legion and today staff and children observed a minutes silence to commemorate Armistice Day at 11.00am this morning. Friday’s assembly will also be an opportunity for children to  learn about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies.

Harvest Celebrations at Torfield

The end of the first term saw all the children at Torfield celebrating harvest time and marking the changing seasons. Our families showed incredible generosity by donating a wealth of vital foodstuffs which were then donated to Hastings Foodbank. Children from 2BH visited the foodbank to donate the supplies on behalf of Torfield, a visit which provided them with an opportunity to learn about how a charity uses donations to help and support families in Hastings.

PSHE Letter and PSHE RSE Curriculum Overview

Parents and Carers,

At Torfield we pride ourselves on ensuring all children benefit from a broad and balanced curriculum. This has, for many years, now included lessons in Personal, Social,   Health and Economic education (PSHE) and Relationship and Sex Education (RSE).

School Meals

Harrison Catering are now providing our school meals. The cost of a school dinner is now £2.20 per day for those pupils who are not entitled to free school meals. Parents/carers who use ParentPay can continue to do so with the new provider.

The new school menu can be found via the following link;

We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting payments online for dinner money. Using a secure website called ParentPay you are able to pay online using your credit or debit card. If you have not yet signed up or would like further information please contact the office.

Local Offer - East Sussex

The Local authority has produced a local offer, which is to inform parents, carers and interested parties about local services and support that is available for children and young people with SEN. As part of this process, we have produced a document that describes the provision made by Torfield and Saxon Mount Schools. The East Sussex Local Offer site can be found here: Click here

"What Torfield has also done is to make him happier and more confident, with a real chance of a measure of independence in the future… Each week, I see him improving step by step and it is hard to express how much that means"

Billie-Jo Hancock and her partner Daniel live in Hastings with their sons Roman, five and Sole, four.

"It is quite clear that both schools provide outstanding opportunities for pupils...None of this would be possible without the total engagement of all staff, teaching and non-teaching and the persistent support of the governing body in the shaping and development of the young people."

Craig Pamphilon, School External Advisor Annual Report July 2019

Torfield School caters for children and young people who have a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Torfield is designated by the local authority as a special school for pupils with autism and associated Communication and Language Difficulties (ACLD). In practice this means a large number of our children have ASD. However a significant number of pupils also have speech, language and communication difficulties and other complex SEN.

We hope that you find all the information required within our website. However if you do have further questions or would like to talk to a member of staff, please do not hesitate to contact our school office who will be happy to help you.
